Hello 2021
Well, well, well….. what a strange years it’s been, but we are back. As you can see from the picture above, we’ve had some changes. Karolina has stepped down from the band with the exciting new thats she’s pregnant. That left us with a entry drum throne, and some shinnanigans we welcome Dean to the band. Octavius and Dean have worked together before and it’s been great to get back to playing.
We have some gigs in the pipe line so keep an eye out for those.
We have also released a single, taken from our live lock down live stream; Amplified!
Check out the posts below for more details of both…

2020!!!!
After a great end to 2019, we are back bigger than ever for 2020. First Practice already done, and work starts on the preparation for getting back in the studio to record some new sounds for you! Plan is get release songs throughout the year, building up to the full album release. We are still going to have our energy filled New Wave of Classic Rock sound, but expect some bigger tunes, bigger arrangements and the occasional kitchen sink thrown in for good measure!
We have plenty of gig already in the diary, have a look at The Desperados LIVE page, but we are working behind the scenes to get some juicy festival slots too!

We had an amazing night supporting The Album Project at The Playhouse in Cheltenham. Chance to take to a bigger stage and play a set of Desperados originals that really fit with the nights Southern Rock theme. The 8 strong Album Project performed a set of classics including Hard To Handle, Call Me The Breeze, and of course Sweet Home Alabama.
Thanks to Simon for asking us, and Dylan, Marcus and Ed for all their hard work, and of course everyone who rocked up to rock out on a Monday evening (photo credit- Barnaby Eaton-Jones)

Blake Visited Oliver Angel at Dex Audio to chat about guitars, modded pedals and being a sponsored artist.
La Chica at 30!
Blake’s guitar La Chica has become an integral part of The Desperados’ sound, and in many ways iconic to the band as a whole, her picture has adorned Facebook, Instagram and Twitter profile pictures over the years.
This year marks her 30th birthday so we thought we would some something a bit special for the old girl, and tell you a bit about her.
La Chica is a Japanese made Charvel, for a long time incorrectly described as a Mod 7, the toothpaste Charvel logo on the headstock actually makes her even rarer; she is in fact a Legend!! The Legend was part of the contemporary line of Charvels make in the late 80’s/early 90’s with The Legend only being made in 1989.
Blake bought the guitar from PMT in Birmingham in the early 2000s for £250 (the price sticker is still on the back of the guitar) and was a second guitar very rarely used live, until Blake started playing open mic nights in Cheltenham. Rather than using his more expensive Fender Stratocaster, or more fragile Epiphone Sheraton he opted to us the Charvel as ‘a guitar that I didn’t mind a drunk being sick on!’ However the sound and feel became a favourite, the over wound pick ups having power and bottom end for riffs, but still clear articulation for solos.
La Chica gets her name from the Mexican roots of the band, and from the ‘pin-up girl’ sticker below the bridge. In more recent times Blake added a ‘Green Sugar’ Right-On strap, and is always strung with Rotosound ‘Yellow’ 10’s. As a present for her birthday she received a custom stencilled flight case.
‘She’s a very special guitar, very much one of a kind. You can keep your Strats and Les Pauls, because they can only do half the job, La Chica, she can do anything!! - Blake Sanders The Desperados

Sociable Beer Company Worcester.
The fantastic people at The Socialable Beer Company asked us back and how could we refuse!! Read our set reviewed by RhythmBooze/SLAP magazine editor Graham Munn (Photo Credits- Graham Munn)
Another chilly night in the dark backstreets of Worcester, the warm, crowded Sociable Beer Company, looked inviting, and Cheltenham barnstorming band, The Desperados, were setting up, just the other side of the glass. Time for a beer.
The trio, Blake, Robbie and Karolina, certainly look the part, A heavily bearded Blake, leading from the front, like a Ned Kelly figure, they bring a crunching rock groove, with blues stripes, that demands you ‘let your hair down’ and party. They’re soon steaming across the Southern States, in ‘Mississippi King’, a ripping rock blues, sees Robbie paddling his bass in the humid air. The engines building up to full pressure for a cracking, ‘Hard To Handle’, that could just be, Karolina, as she thrashes her drums and batters the cymbals into submission.
We’re in a brewery, so it only seemed right to bump up the rhythm, with Robby and Karolina firing in their salvo’s, Blake leading the way into, ‘Beer Drinkers And Hell Raisers’, with guitar chaser to follow through on this heady round. A mad ass’d, ‘When The House Is Rocking’, rocked the joint, as we headed toward a break, but not before Blake took the sting out a little, with a lovely mellow, slow blues rock of, ‘Wicked Game’, lifting the throttle a little, before stamping back down with a second set.
Their own sultry blues, lifted from their EP, ‘Foxy Lady’, regained the attention of a crowded Sociable Beer Company, self named, ‘The Desperados’, bit hard into the night, axes threatening everyone in reach, as expected from this gang of renegades. A firecracking, ‘Jumpin Jack Flash’, had the feet stomping to the old Stones favourite.
A rich seem of blues coloured this second set, ‘Born Under A Bad Sign’, ‘The Thrill Is Gone’, giving Blake his BB King moment, the ever addictive sound of ‘Cocaine’, not to mention a touch of Hendrix, in the form of, ‘Voodoo Chile’. No guitars behind the head stuff, but Robby was making up for that by airing his bass, and striking a pose or two, the band signed off with Robby standing high on a table, hair flowing, bandana tied around his wrist, Blake and Karolina, are having fun, ‘Going Down Slow’. It had been a wildly entertaining evening, in a venue that was new to me, but obviously not to the crowd who had filled the place, bringing an ambience and badly needed warmth to the evening, The Desperados, escaped back to Cheltenham, but no doubt will be raiding Worcester regularly in the new year, well worth looking out for, a fun, filled, hard rocking gig.
